Thomas Pichote  joins Vanguard as Country Manager for the German market, bringing over a decade of experience in the German domestic healthcare sector. Thomas joins the company following six years at senior management level with the German arm of Medtronic. Prior to this, he held roles with University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Albertinen-Diakoniewerk and Dräger Medical. Thomas’ qualifications in Physics, Medical Engineering and Finance & Accounting and fluency in both German and English made him an ideal candidate to oversee Vanguard’s day-to-day operations in Germany. It is expected that Thomas will begin to grow a German based team to support rapid expansion within the market. Mary Smallbone, Vanguard Healthcare’s Managing Director Europe, commented on the appointment: ‘This is a big step for Vanguard, Germany is an enormous market and brings about a fresh set of challenges for the company as we look to grow our presence. With Thomas on board, we are in a brilliant position to enter into a new chapter for the business’s European growth.’

Vanguard Healthcare celebrates the 50,000th patient to receive an Orthopaedic procedure within its mobile theatres since the company was founded in 2002. This milestone puts Vanguard even closer to enabling the treatment of a quarter of a million patients across all specialities. Each state-of-the-art theatre features laminar flow ventilation, which significantly reduces the risk of airborne infection, making even highly invasive procedures as such as hip replacements safely achievable. Vanguard’s Chief Executive, Ian Gillespie, comments on the milestone: “This is another fantastic achievement for Vanguard; Orthopaedics has always been one the specialities for which our units are most commonly utilised. With patient demand rising nationally we are seeing our fleet, not just theatres but wards and even clinics, in constant use. We have two brand new units undergoing the final stages of their construction and I expect that both will be out on the road almost immediately.”

Vanguard announces that it will be significantly expanding its current fleet in the face of mounting demand. The popularity of temporary clinical facilities has skyrocketed as swelling European populations have begun to put a strain on hospitals across the continent. Two of the brand new units will be operational within the British market introducing greater flexibility to the health service. One of these is a laminar flow theatre, Vanguard’s flagship facility, while the other is a ward – which is typically used in combination with the theatre to create a self contained health centre. A third unit, again a laminar flow theatre, is also in production but has been designed to be used predominantly in mainland Europe. Oliver Law, Vanguard’s Director of Operations UK and Europe, made the announcement, stating: ‘Vanguard Healthcare is making a substantial investment into new facilities as we continue to supply on-demand clinical capacity to a growing base of partner hospitals across the UK and Europe. In combination with a escalation of our search for talented nursing staff to join our clinical teams; this is a sign of our commitment to helping to bolster the operational resilience of healthcare providers around Europe.’

With the clinical staff forming the backbone of Vanguard’s core service, growing and maintaining the team will be essential to the company’s progression. ‘This is a really unique and highly mobile business, which brings its own challenges in terms of recruitment and engagement. However, I’m confident that we can bring on further talent to what is already an exceptional team.’
